David McKelvey

Director of New Media

New to Lewis & Clark, but not to web design, I’ve been playing with art/design and computers most all my life — anyone remember the Sinclair 1000? Working with web sites just seems like the natural union of art and code. As for my history, I did most of my growing up in the West, having lived in every west coast state save Hawaii, and would find it hard to be anywhere else but here. (Despite missing Puget Sound now and again, I have come to love Portland’s continental character.) I know I’ve joined a great team here in PubComm/NewMedia and am looking forward to working alongside them and you. Any questions? Simply email.

Robb Shecter

Software Engineer

I came to Portland for most of the reasons that it’s unique: good public transportation, a progressive spirit, and a focus on sustainability and new solutions to old problems. My background and degree is in computer science, and I like to approach tasks with a mix of theoretical and practical approaches. Here in New Media, I’m responsible for web application development and software engineering processes. I’m particularly interested in programming languages and software design. What does all that actually mean? Take, for example, a seemingly simple task - logging in to the website in order to view a special or private page. Usually a department would create a “department-user” that anyone can log in with, if they know the password. This can get unwieldy in lots of situations, for example, keeping track of the department-user’s password and who still knows it.A better solution might be to delegate responsibility to a role, instead of a user. And then, any user can have any number of roles. This is how it works in the real world, after all. Conceptualizing issues like these and then implementing solutions to them is a big part of our work in New Media. My personal home page.

Noah Kersey

Communications Officer for New Media

Born and raised in Bigfoot country (Northern California), a lifelong vegetarian, and proud to be counted among the alumni of Lewis & Clark. I have been immersed in the web since I got my first computer, and as a member of Public Affairs and Communications I get to share my enthusiasm with all those who are creating or maintaining web content across the institution. Got a question about Trillium? Drop me a line.
