Oregon Writing Project offers new strategies for K-12 teachers
Oregon Writing Project (OWP)’s Summer Institute, now in its 25th year, offers K-12 teachers intensive workshops on teaching the writing process, including lessons plans and revision strategies. Said OWP director Linda Christensen (pictured), “The programs help students read, solve problems, and understand concepts in every part of writing.”
PrISM Comes to Lewis & Clark
Lewis & Clark is taking part in Oregon’s collaborative Preparation for Instruction of Science & Mathematics (PrISM) program to improve elementary and middle school mathematics and science instruction across Oregon. Courses for inservice teachers are available at six Oregon universities, through a summer institute, and online.

E. Scott Fletcher Named New Dean of the Graduate School

Student Commencement Speaker Named
Charlie Ahlquist, M.A.T. ’08, has been chosen as student commencement speaker. An experienced musician, he says of teaching, “I find joy every hour by educating my students about different cultures, our histories, our diversity, and the exhilaration and anguish of the human condition, through the gift of song.”
New Journal of Educational Leadership
The Educational Leadership Program is proud to announce a new online journal, Pioneer Perspectives: Commentaries on Educational Leadership, which will feature original scholarship produced by Lewis & Clark doctoral students. The first issue is available online now.
An Invitation to a Beautiful Career
In a lecture sponsored by the graduate school, Jonathan Kozol shared his insights into the frustrations and roadblocks, pleasures and triumphs, faced by new school teachers and their students in urban public schools. He discussed strategies to help teachers avoid being among the 50% who leave the profession within the first three years.
Graduate Commencement
Internationally renowned author and educator Nel Noddings will speak at the Graduate School of Education and Counseling’s commencement ceremony on Sunday, June 3, at 10 a.m.
Coaching World Champions
Assistant Professor of Education Kasi Fuller instructs Lewis & Clark students how to be world-class teachers. Recently, she coached another group of learners: a team of seventh-grade technology prodigies.
