Latest Victory for Northwest Environmental Defense Center
Following threatened legal action from Lewis & Clark’s Northwest Environmental Defense Center for allegedly violating federal clean water laws by allowing pollution from scrap metal operations to flow into the Willamette River, Schnitzer Steel Industries has promised to spend one point six million dollars upgrading stormwater management systems by the end of the summer. “It is impressive to see that Schnitzer is willing to move forward so aggressively with this much-needed […] investment in this challenging economic climate,” said Mark Riskedahl, Executive Director of the NEDC.
Greening the Grid Conference
National legal and industry experts recently convened at Lewis & Clark to discuss the laws we need to support the growth of low- or no-carbon energy sources for the power transmission grid. IELP Works to Stop Dams in Panama
On behalf of the Naso and Ngobe people and many NGO’s in Panama, the International Environmental Law Project filed a petition to list La Amistad International Park in Panama and Costa Rica as a World Heritage site in Danger. The World Heritage Committee has agreed with IELP’s assessment.
Biodiscourse
The first fall exhibition at the Ronna and Eric Hoffman Gallery of Contemporary Art features two artist activists who use their work to document our environment and how it is manipulated by us. Artwork by Robert Glenn Ketchum and Ryan Burns will be on exhibit from September 8 to October 16.
