6 through 15 November 2008
This award-winning satirical comedy musical—poking fun at capitalism, social irresponsibility, bureaucracy, corporate mismanagement, and petty small town politics—marks Lewis & Clark’s first musical production in ten years! Close to 60 students will bring the production to life, led by Portland theater and music luminaries director Stepan Simek, scenic designer Curt Enderle, costume designer Cara Carr, choreographer Lisa Zandy, vocal director Susan McBerry, and conductor David Becker.
Performances will take place nightly November 6-8 and 13-15, at 7:30 pm. Tickets are available at the Box Office (open M-F, 1-5 p.m. beginning Monday, Nov. 3, and one hour before performances). Amir ElSaffar and his sextet meld styles and seamlessly cross-pollinate the languages of ancient and modern, East and West. ElSaffar’s compositions are some of the first in the history of jazz to make use of Arabic modality and its non-western tunings.
The concert is co-sponsored by the Lewis & Clark College Department of Music, Portland State University Middle East Studies Center, and the Arab-American Cultural Center of Oregon.
Tickets, available at the door, are $10 for students and senior citizens, $15 for general admission. A limited number of free tickets are available to the Lewis & Clark community in the music department office.
The concert is in Evans Auditorium, at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 26.

This annual musical celebration, honoring James W. Rogers, showcases the College’s music department. Featuring performances by Lewis & Clark Cappella Nova and Women’s Chorus, the cast of Urinetown (Lewis & Clark’s fall main stage production), Lewis & Clark Chamber Orchestra, Lewis & Clark Wind Symphony, and faculty and student soloists and chamber ensembles.
The concert, which will be held in Evans Auditorium, is free and open to the public.

The concert will include performances by Lewis & Clark students, Master Drummer and Lewis & Clark Instructor Obo Addy and Homowo drummers. Children are welcome! Families are encouraged to bring their children to experience vibrant music and dance.

Join Camerata Vocalis, a 30-member mixed chorus from Germany’s University of Tübingen, under the direction of Tobias Hiller, and Lewis & Clark College’s Cappella Nova, under the direction of Dr. Gilbert Seeley, for a concert featuring a program of mostly German composers including Brahms, Mendelssohn, Schütz and Schein.

The Alexander String Quartet concludes a three-day residency at Lewis & Clark with an evening recital in Evans Auditorium. They will perform Mozart’s Divertimento in F major, K. 138; Bela Bartok’s String Quartet No. 1, Op. 7, and Schubert’s String Quartet No. 14 in D minor, D. 810 “Death and the Maiden”.
