Jeremy McWilliams publishes article on academic image resources

In June, McWilliams published an article in the Code4Lib Journal titled “Developing an Academic Image Collection with Flickr.” The article discusses technical aspects of the up-and-coming online collection of contemporary ceramics images, accessCeramics, founded by Assistant Director for Systems and Technical Services at the Watzek Library Mark Dahl and Assistant Professor of Art and Program Head of Ceramics Ted Vogel. Dahl and Vogel recently received a grant of $19,000 from the non-profit organization NITLE to help jumpstart this online collection, which will not only be used in classroom settings, but will be open to the general public as well.

Mary Stuart Rogers Professor of Education Ruth Shagoury publishes book on young writers
Ruth Shagoury, Mary Stuart Rogers professor of education:
Shagoury published a book about educating young writers. “Raising Writers: Understanding and Nurturing Young Children’s Writing Development” (Allyn & Bacon, 2008) explores how primary educators can nurture young learners through the transition from spoken to written language.
American Chemical Society publishes article by Professor Jim Duncan and two undergraduates

An article by Duncan and seniors David Calkins and Mariya Chavarha has been published by the American Chemical Society. The article, titled “Secondary Orbital Effect in the Electrocyclic Ring Closure of 7-Azahepta-1,2,4,6-tetraene - a CASSCF Molecular Orbital Study,” can be read online, at the Journal of the American Chemical Society.
Campion reviews biography of Kevin O’Higgins

This spring, Campion reviewed John P. McCarthy’s biography of Kevin O’Higgins, titled “Kevin O’Higgins: Builder of the Irish State” (Irish Academic Press, 2006) for The University Bookman. Campion writes: “It is a testament to Kevin O’Higgins and to the government he painstakingly helped build and in whose service he gave the best years of his life…”
Retirement research draws attention in New York Times
A published paper by Harry Schleef, associate professor of economics, and Robert Eisinger, associate professor of political science, entitled “Hitting or Missing the Retirement Target: Comparing Contributions and Asset Allocation Schemes of Simulated Portfolios,” was the centerpiece of a New York Times column on investment strategies.
